Date started: June 7, 2004

Birth date: July 13, 1959

Birthplace: Atlanta, Georgia (Georgia Baptist Hospital no less)

What I do: As the minister of Pastoral Care I have responsibility for overseeing ministry to our members during illnesses, bereavement and other crises as well as times of joy that arise throughout the course of this wonderful life God has blessed us with. I also have the privilege of ministering to and working with the the maturing families of our church in many different ways.

Family: I am blessed to be married to the most amazing woman in the world, Karen Channell. Karen and I met working together on a youth ministry project while she was on staff at one church and I was volunteering at another. God has blessed us with three amazing children. Our daughter, Erin, is 23 and loves the Lord and serves Him in our Children’s Worship ministry in addition to being a photographer. One son, Jerry, is 22 and a student at UGA involved in leadership in various student ministry organizations on campus. Our youngest son, Scott, is 18 and a student at Gainesville College and loves the Lord and also serves in our Children’s Worship ministry.

Favorite hobbies or sports: I love spending time with my family. I enjoy camping, traveling and just spending time outside as much as possible.

Favorite sport teams: UGA Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves and Falcons

My relationship with Christ: I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home and as an eight year old understood that Jesus was God and that He died for my sins. I put my trust in Him as my savior as an eight year old and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Morrow, Georgia. On my very first youth retreat I came to understand that Jesus wanted to have a personal relationship with me and I made the decision to make Him the Lord of my life. God called me to ministry and led me to serve Him in a variety of positions. My wife and I served the Lord at Eagle Ranch for five years as house parents. God then allowed us the privilege of serving for two years as missionaries with the International Mission Board in Madrid, Spain before joining the staff of Blackshear Place Baptist Church.
